The Strokes are a band from New York that formed in 1998 and came to prominence in 2000-2001. Upon the release of Is This It?", their first major lable cd, they were hailed as the "saviours of rock" (experts calculate that a new saviour of rock is born every 3.25 minutes). They were considered part of a "garage band revival" that included such bands as The White Stripes, The Hives, The Vines, and other bands that begin with "The".
What I can say about these bands is that I love the White Stripes and have most of their cds, and if anyone deserves to be the saviors of rock, it's them. I also have the first cd of The Strokes and of The Vines, and Highly Evolved by The Vines is a nice imitation grunge song. I never did buy anything by The Hives but Hate To Say is still a kick-ass song.
I do like The Strokes, but I've yet to feel an overwhelming need to pick up a second cd of theirs. Nevertheless, I find their song Someday immensely addicting. It has the feel of a song from the 50's or 60's, while at the same time sounding quite modern. I guess part of the old-school feel is due to the lyrics, which are part reminiscing about a happier past. It's just a very infectious jangly pop rock tune, better than almost anything that the other bands have released.
Except for Fell In Love With A Girl by The White Stripes, of course.
Anyway I'll probably need to pick up more of The Strokes at some point. They are pretty good.
You can decide for yourself. Here's the video for the song: The Strokes - Someday.
