I've been trying to watch the Escaflowne movie all week. It's very beautiful, as befits an anime meant for the big screen. But they've messed up the story so much that it's hard to stay interested. But I need to finish it so I can give it back to my comic shop owner.
Got my Lord of the Rings back from Jim at work. He loved it, of course. Now >THIS< is a movie I can watch over and over! I'm kind of glad now that I didn't worry about getting the fullscreen version instead of the widescreen version, since what I really want is the special version that comes out in November, with all the extra scenes added in. ^_^
Music
I need to make an FSB mix cd for my comic shop guy. It needs to be a little more varied than the one I made for myself... for me, I just toss in all the kick-ass hard rockers. ^_^ Also, I need to copy my Lord of the Rings soundtrack to take to work... was listening to Princess Mononoke, Varttina, Ruth MacKenzie's Kalevala at work today, and I needed LotR to go with all of that. ^_^
Me First and the Gimmee Gimmee's... very fun stuff. Punk rock covers of musical numbers, nothing like hearing Rainbow Connection at full throttle. Thank you Cheryl! Reminds me a little bit of the Toy Dolls, another warped punk group that has covered at least one musical number ("Any Dream Will Do" by Andrew Lloyd Weber). So I made a cd this week of Toy Dolls songs, one for me and one to give to Cheryl. Am I spelling your name right? Anyway, I was sad to realize that I left out "David's RX2" which is a fun song, but I couldn't fit everything on anyway. Also left out "Queen Alexandria Street Is Where She Said She'd Be, But Was She There To Meet Me? No Chance!" Which is not only the full title to the song and one of the longest song titles I know of, but is also the first half of the chorus. But I did manage to fit in a good amount of Toy Dolls craziness, including "Nellie the Elephant", "Ernie Had a Hernia", "My Girlfriend's Dad's A Vicar", "Florence is Deaf (But There's No Need to Shout)", "Yul Brynner Was A Skinhead", "You Won't Be Merry On A North Sea Ferry", and covers of "No Particular Place To Go", "500 Miles", "The Sabre Dance" and "Tocatta In D Minor".
E-Bay
Until this week I'd only ever used E-Bay once, to pick up an out of print cd that I'd had stolen (one of my all time favorites). But for no particular reason I hit E-Bay this week and started looking around to see what I could find, and now I've got multiple auctions that I'm bidding on or at least watching.
First thing I managed to buy was the dvd "Magic-User's Club" vol 7 for $11.00. That seemed like a pretty decent deal, even with s&h. I don't own any of the others yet, but Sky will force me to own all of them eventually, so I might as well get started.
Also have bids in for the third and fourth Blue Seed DVDs, for $9.50 total for both. I hope those go through, that would be a major steal and complete my collection! I really want these so I think I need to go back and set my max bids higher... I'd be willing to pay $10 or $15 or more for each, since they'll cost me about $30 each new.
This evening I won 2 bids on nice anime tee shirts. They're new, XL, and cost $10.00 each. One is from Clamp's Clover series, the other is You're Under Arrest. Very cool! ^_^ I didn't absolutely need either of them, but I like them both and I can't beat the price. I haven't got any new anime shirts in a while anyway.
I lost a bid for a 3x3 Eyes shirt... I only set my max bid to $4.00, and someone outbid me. Would have been a nice steal for $4 but no biggie.
The other bid I lost bugs me a lot. When I visited the Mall of America in Minnesota four years ago, I found a really cool black tee shirt that I still wear, with Betty Boop in Buffy the Vampire Slayer getup. I really love this shirt and the design, and I'd buy a couple more if I could... but I've never been able to find the design for sale again.
Until this week, when I did a search and found someone down in Oregon selling one of these shirts. ^_^ It was only a large, not an XL, so it would fit me, but I prefer a loose oversized fit... but still! I watched it for several days, then placed the first bid when the auction was less than 2 hours from final... and I went to bed. When I got up, someone had outbid me. Grrr! Well, I only set my max bid to $13.00... I think if it was an XL I would have set it much higher, I'd gladly pay $25.00 for another of these shirts.
Everquest
I hadn't played in a while but Sky got me to start a character on Fironia Vie, the role-play server he's on right now. I've managed to get up to 5th level (dark elf rogue, Meriwa)... but I don't know if I can catch him by the weekend, so I don't know if we'll get the chance to play together (which is the plan). Anyway he'll probably get bored and quit again before I catch up to him in level. ^_^
Writing
I haven't written much lately, been too busy with other things. But I'm trying!
I plotted yet another story in my head within the last 24 hours. I don't think I'll write it down... I come up with many more ideas for stories than I could ever write even if I wrote a few thousand words every day. As Gene said in his journal a few weeks ago... you want to write, but can't think of anything to write about? Um, guess I'll never have THAT problem!
