Today's Song: Ripple by The Church
Australian band The Church is best known for their song Under the Milky Way, which was their only real American hit song. But for me, their best stuff has a mysterious, magical sound -- mystical, sometimes confusing lyrics wrapped in swirling, chiming guitars. Ripple is a prime example, and has been a favorite song of mine for years.
The Church were never able to repeat their success with Under the Milky Way and thus they sometimes get labelled a "one hit wonder". Nothing could be further from the truth. They release several very good albums before their big hit, and they've continued to release albums since, including some that are better than Starfish, the album that spawned the hit. Heydey, Priest = Aura, and Hologram of Baal are all brilliant cds.
Luckily Ripple was a minor hit, which means I have the Youtube video link for you to check it out for yourself. You can also hear a nice long sample of this song on their web site if you click on Discography and go the right cd Priest = Aura.
I forgot to post this Saturday, but I've now officially been doing a song of a day every single day for a month. ^_^ I haven't missed a day yet, although in a handful of cases I post-dated my entry the following day, then did another one for that day. I did that this morning -- if you missed it, here's the link to yesterday's song of the day (Peace Tonight by the Indigo Girls).
Before much longer I'm going to need to make a list of all the songs I've already used; it's getting harder and harder to remember!
