The Choir is one of the few Christian bands that I was into when I was in high school and college that never really faded away... much like Daniel Amos and The 77's, they continued to release albums over the years and have produced some brilliant alternative rock music. (All three bands share one other thing in common -- members of each band are present in alternative country supergroup The Lost Dogs, also a band that creates great music.
Salamander is the type of song that the Choir excell at -- easygoing alternative pop, nothing too fancy, but a very pretty song with a nice chorus. This is a whimsical song about a salamander sunning himself on the rock... but it also draws a loose connection to the spiritual:
Climb on up now
From the slippery bog
Rest your belly on a sunny rock
Hey, isn't the light okay?
Isn't the day all right?
Well what if your head won't raise to the sun?
Catch the rays on your tongue
Set your eyes on the truth
Surrender your spirit to the wind,
Set your heart free
Climb on up now,
From the slippery bog
Rest your belly on a sunny rock
A sunny rock
Hey, isn't the light okay,
Isn't the day all right?
So what if your head won't raise to the sun,
Catch the rays on your tongue
A fun, cool little song. I was pleased to see that their stuff can be found on iTunes.
This is a band that few people have heard of, so naturally I can't link you to any videos of this song. However, they do have a myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/thechoir
I also found some Lost Dogs videos, so here's one of my favorite songs of theirs:
