I decided that Rufus Wainwright has enough musical relatives that it might be fun to pick a song from each of them to focus on. So for today I'm picking on Loudon Wainwright III, the father of Rufus. It might be temptiing to just pick Dead Skunk In the Middle of the Road simply because it's a funny song and I already own it, but instead I went to iTunes and found that Grey In L.A. is currently his most downloaded song there.
I also found out that really, the most popular track from his new cd Strange Weirdos (music from and inspired by the film Knocked Up, which is a sequel to 40 Year Old Virgin) is actually a cover of the song Daughter, but this is only available on iTunes if you purchase the whole album. As might be expected, this has lead to lots of angry comments from customers who expect to use iTunes to download only the song they want, not the whole cd, and also explains why his current most popular song is not his current most popular download on iTunes.
Grey In L.A. seems like a nice song. I went ahead and downloaded it, as I always do for any song I decide to make my song of the day that I don't own already. I can't link you to a full version of it, however, but here's his third most popular iTune download, The Swimming Song, in a Youtube video. It's a nice song too.
