Today's Song: Icky Thump by the White Stripes

The new single from the White Stripe's new cd by the same name. I ordered it last week and it arrived in the mail on Saturday, so I thought I'd do a song of theirs as my song of the day, and why not make it the single. Oh, and their 10th anniversary date is July 14th, maybe I should have waited until then to feature a song by them. ^_^ I can always do another song of theirs on that day if I happen to remember.

The White Stripes have reached that level for me where I'll buy any cd they release without having heard any of it, and I know I'll like it. I do have to admit, sometimes the critical acclaim and fanboy/fangirl gushing about this band gets a little over the top, but they are one of the best bands around today, and I do think Jack White qualifies as some kind of musical genius and a bona-fide guitar god. To paraphrase something skyoxford said once, the White Stripes can do more with just a guitar and a basic drum kit than most bands can do with millions of dollars in equipment, studio time, and innumerable band members and guest artists.

I'm still totally sad that I can't find the cute kitty version of Fell In Love With A Girl that I saw a few years ago, which was my introduction to the White Stripes. But anyway, here's a crummy video of the song set to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is a hilarious anime series.
