Today's Song: Big Bang Baby by The Stone Temple Pilots
I wasn't much of a fan of STP when they first appeared on the scene. I mean, I kinda liked their first hits but after I'd bought their cd Core and listened to it a few times, it seemed not only incredibly derivative but also there was very little variety throughout the cd. It just didn't impress me that much.
Fortunately, STP turned out to be a far more talented band than the other grunge imitators -- bands like Bush, Seven Mary Three, and Silverchair pretty much were nothing more than pretend Northwest bands hopping on the grunge train to hitsville. STP, however, continued to evolve and improve and show that they were very talented. I liked Purple much better than Core, and I like their other releases quite a bit too, even the later ones.
One of my favorite songs of theirs is Big Bang Baby from Tiny Music. I couldn't even say for sure why I like it so much. It's just a cool tune in general, the kind I never get tired of hearing. So that's my song of the day for today. ^_^
I was going to come up with something spooky for Friday the 13th, but I guess Scott Wieland is as spooky as I can get. Scott's new band Velvet Revolver (with former members of Guns 'n' Roses) is going strong with their second album just out. I should probably pick it up. I wonder what the other STP guys are up to these days?
