Today's Song: Groove Line by Heatwave

The disco songs that I like tend towards the funkier side of things, I suppose. Anyway, Heatwave had three major hits, Boogie Nights, Always and Forever and The Groove Line. Boogie Nights was their biggest hit, but I happen to like The Groove Line best, so that's my pick.

They had an interesting makeup: the band formed around brothers Johnnie and Keith Wilder from Dayton, Ohio, but the two began performing in West Germany while they were still servicemen. After being discharged they stayed in Germany for a while, then relocated to England. Eventuall the band included Englishman Rod Temperton on keyboards, a Spanish bass player, a Czechoslovakian drummer, a Jamaican guitarist, and a British guitarist. Thus when they're described as an international band it's not just a label. ^_^

Rod Temperton later left the band and went on to write quite a lot of hits for other artists, including Rufus, The Brothers Johnson, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, and most famously of all, he wrote three of the tracks on Michael Jackson's Off The Wall LP (including "Rock With You" and "Off The Wall") and also three songs for Thriller, including the title track.

Well, that's really all I have to say about that, I guess. Here's the band in all their funky polyester glory:

The Groove Line (Heatwave)

They look like they're having a blast. ^_^ I guess the Groove Line take you to a very happy place.
