Today's Song: Legend Land by Leaves' Eyes
I think I've been pretty good about not tossing out a bunch of weird goth metal/power metal/symphonic metal/progressive folk metal tunes for my songs of the day. Even though I listen to a lot of that kind of thing, I listen to all kinds of music, and I know that only some of my friends are fans of metal. But I just discovered this weekend that Within Temptaion has a new cd out, and I'm excited to hear it. So I thought it would be a good time to make my favorite song of theirs, Mother Earth, my song of the day.
Except that, as it turns out, you can't find Within Temptation on iTunes.
Well, nevermind that. I've linked to the video of the song so you can watch it again (I have linked it before). And while we're at it here's the new video taken from their new cd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEgXDhiayz4
In the meantime I guess I'll make Legend Land by Leaves' Eyes my song of the day. Leaves' Eyes is the band formed by Liv Kristine after she was fired from Theater of Tragedy. The rest of the band was made up of her husband Alexander Krull's band Atrocity, but these days Leaves' Eyes is doing so well that it seems to be their main concern, and Atrocity is an afterthought. Liv has a beautiful voice and writes good songs. I have any number of songs that I like of theirs, probably some that I like better than this track, but Legend Land is from their latest ep of the same name released just last year, and it's one of their best songs as far as real heavy metal songs featuring both Liv and Alexander go. (Some of the other songs that I like better are really non-metal ballads featuring only Liv singing.)
Leaves' Eyes only has their first cd Lovelorn and the ep Legend Land available on iTunes, apparently. From their first cd, I'd reccomend Norwegian Lovesong, Lovelorn, Tale of the Sea Maid, and Into Your Light. All of which happen to be, along with two versions of the song Legend Land, their top six most popular iTune downloads.
They have a myspace page where you can hear Legend Land. But here's a link to the video: Legend Land by Leaves' Eyes
And... well, they also have another myspace page, where you can hear a couple of different songs. I don't know why.
I saw Leaves' Eyes in concert in November, opening for Blind Guardian. They were very impressive. ^_^ But I have to say, the club I saw them at was the smallest venue I'd ever been in -- nothing like in this video. I swear the back wall was less than 100 feet from the stage. In fact, my two friends and I stood in the back on a raised platform and had an excellent view over the crowd.
