Today's Song: Ocean Land by Orphaned Land

It's been over a year since I picked up Mabool by Isreal's progressive folk death metal band Orphaned Land, and it's still my favorite cd that I've heard in the last 2+ years. So I thought I'd feature something from it.

Orphaned Land mix Middle Eastern/Isreali folk music with death metal vocals, strong clean vocals, choirs, progressive metal, and a well-written concept album based on a mystical interpretation of the flood in which the three Monotheistic religeons (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) are represented by three brothers who all carry the same message to the world of God's wrath. Sung in multiple languages, no less.

Whatever. It's incredibly cool and varied music, and the death metal vocals represent a wrathful God just as well as they might represent a demonic spirit or a voice from the grave. It works, really really well. It's just that this is the kind of music that I suspect few of my friends would appreciate, which is why I told [livejournal.com profile] berbalang about it. He's one of the few that I felt would like this stuff. But seriously, it's an awesome cd. ^_^ Although I think my favorite track is Halo Dies.
