When I first checked out iTunes at the begining of the year, I downloaded songs from some of the operatic and gothic metal bands that I hadn't really gotten into yet. Some of them (such as Therion) I went on to buy cds of. Some of them (such as Terisias) I really disliked and decided to never buy anything of theirs.
I still don't own anything by Tristania, but their song World of Glass hasn't left my iPod for the last eight months. I'm not sure what that says about them and me... I guess I fell in love with this paraticular song, but I'm not really convinced that I'd listen to a whole cd of theirs. In some ways I picked up on this song just as I was reaching my operatic goth metal saturation point. I still have cds that I bought this Spring that I haven't really listened to more than once or twice, not enough to get into them and discover if I really like them or not. In particular, two cds by Lunatica and Edenbridge, and a cd by Thy Majestie.
Anyway, the song World of Glass has many of the hallmarks of the genre, in particular beautiful operatic female vocals offset by growly death metal male vocals. As I said, I don't know if I would like a whole cd by this band, but I happen to like this one song a lot.
