Today's Song: Wagon Wheel by The Old Crow Medicine Show
I can't remember what I was searching for on iTunes when I came across this band. They're an old-timey country string band. Actually now that I think about it, I was trying to search on Rawlins Cross, a celtic band from Newfoundland, and instead I hit upon the name David Rawlings, who is the musical partner of Gillian Welch, herself a performer of old-time country/bluegrass music. David and Gillian team up with the Old Crow Medicine Show on one of their songs, which explians how I stumbled across them.
Anyway, they're good. If you like this sort of thing -- old-time country, blues, and bluegrass. A little bit Bill Munroe, a little bit Woodie Guthrie, a little bit Leadbelly, a little bit Carter Family. Something along those lines anyway. I downloaded this song and have been listening to it for the last week, it makes a nice complement to Spider John Koerner's The Leather-Winged Bat, Kieren Kane's You Can't Save Everybody, Kenny Brown's All I Want and anything by Gillian Welch or Abigail Washburn.
