Today's Song: When You Say Nothing At All by Alison Krauss

I'm kind of stupid sometimes. Even though I fell in love with the music from the movie O Brother Where Art Thou? years ago when it came out, it took me about a year before I picked up my first Gillian Welch cd, and then several years more before I picked up my second.

As for Alison Krauss? She's an equally talented and equally beautiful roots singer/musician and was another big part of that soundtrack, but I still don't own any cds of hers.

I went ahead and downloaded some tracks from iTunes this week. I downloaded Forget About It, Jubilee, and her cover of Missing You with John Waite. They were at the top of her most popular downloads.

First thing you need to know is how to spell her name. It's Alison with one L, and Krauss, with two S's at the end and no E. There actually is an Allisun Krause on iTunes, her cd is even called The Best of Allisun Krause and people have apparently downloaded her accoustic pop music thinking they were getting Alison Krauss's bluegrass and old-time country. They left a few messages about it.

The second thing you need to know is that, for whatever reason, even though the artist for When You Say Nothing At All is listed as Alison Krauss & Union Station (that's her band), for some reason if you search on Alison Krauss this song doesn't come up. I don't know why. You have to either dig deeper, viewing all cds from the artist and clicking on the right cd, or just do a search on the song.

Why is that important? Because when I went to Youtube and searched for Alison Krauss videos, every third one was another video for When You Say Nothing At All. Okay, that doesn't necessarily mean it's her best song -- but it does mean that this is a song which probably a lot of people like who don't even listen to any other music of hers. It's quite popular, probably because it's a pretty sentimental love song.

Anyway -- I wanted to pick a song of hers for my song of the day, so there you go!

Although actually I think I might like Jubilee best. ^_^
