Today's Song: Light Up the Sky by Doug Pinnick

After downloading yesterday's song of the day, the opening track from Ty Tabor's latest solo cd, I went looking for other stuff on iTunes related to King's X, the band members, and their various side products. As I said, both Ty and Doug are very prolific and creative and have their hands in a lot of fires. What I found was that Doug has, over the last few years, recorded several cover tunes for various tribute cds:

Parasite for the Kiss tribute cd Spin the Bottle.
Light Up the Sky for the Van Halen tribute cd 80's Metal Tribute to Van Halen (such a clever title there).
The Unforgiven for the Metallica tribute cd Metallic Metal (they had to think a long time about that one too).
Welcome to the Machine for the Pink Floyd tribute cd Pink Classic Rock (gah! This title is not only unimaginative, but it could easily refer to classic gay rock -- Doug is openly gay after all!)

Anyway, if you like me are much more a fan of a specific musician like Doug Pinnick, and not at all interested in buying four lame tribute cds just to hear four tracks of his, iTunes is a lifesaver. (And I mean that really -- Pink Classic Rock is a $30.00 cd, for example!) I downloaded all four of these tracks, only spent $4, and now I have a marginally more complete collecting of King's X - related music! ^_^

I can't link you to any of these songs, but I can link to the original versions:

Kiss - Parasite
Van Halen - Light Up the Sky
Metallica - The Unforgiven
Pink Floyd - Welcome to the Machine
