Today's Song: Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy

iTunes is made for songs like this. You probably don't know anything about the Dream Academy, but you almost certainly know their song Life in a Northern Town. This is dream pop at it's very best, and was a huge hit. The band released just 3 albums and then broke up. If I had to guess, their first self-titled cd would be the one to own -- it's where you'll find the song Life in a Northern Town.

The story is that their label almost refused to release this as a single. They thought it needed more drums. Labels, as always, just don't get it.

I heard an interview once with Tori Amos where she talked about releasing Little Earthquakes, and how the label almost refused to release it because it was just a woman singing and playing piano (on many tracks anyway) and that kind of music would never sell. Now it's a genre to itself -- imagine that.
