Sunday I went to Fry's with [livejournal.com profile] miertam. I wrote about that before, but I forgot to mention that we ate at a nice steak and fish restaurant in Renton, which I've been to before, over by Walmart, except that I've already forgotten the name again. They serve as many peanuts as you care to eat, and you throw the shells on the floor. They also play country music. I apologized to [livejournal.com profile] miertam for that, I'd forgotten that part, but he just said, "Into every life a little country music must blare." Anyway, I owe him not only for assembling my computer but also for a good lunch/dinner.

I ordered the grilled chicken salad. It was not a very light-carb kind of salad however, but it was good. I also had some chowder, which was also good and not really on my diet.

Monday I went home to finish installing stuff on my computer, and I kept running into a problem. I would set my desktop to a resolution that I liked, but then when I rebooted it would reset itself to the lowest setting. I called [livejournal.com profile] miertam who said that it sounded like the driver had only partially installed over a driver that Windows had installed first... he'd seen this kind of thing before. He suggested I download the latest driver from Nvidia, make sure it's there on the desktop, uninstall the old video drivers, reboot, don't let Windows install anything when it "finds" new hardware, and then install the driver I wanted.

I set about doing this, but I couldn't remember where you went to uninstall a video driver. Add/Remove Software? I saw an option to uninstall Nvidia Drivers there, and I figured Aha! That's what I want!

Thus, I apparently uninstalled my motherboard drivers. When I rebooted I couldn't do anything. After another conversation with Michael I set about doing a Windows repair install, which took some time but at least I didn't have to do a complete reinstall.

So that's how I spent much of the evening. Later I played some CoH, but logged out after I got a call from someone I hadn't heard from in years. My ex roommate (and practically my only remaining friend from high school) Darrell called me up. He'd had to call my parents first to get my number, and had apparently had a nice long conversation with my father. His specific reason for calling me was that his son (now 13) wants to write a story incorporating some of my "foot poems", and so he wanted to get my approval. Of course, that's fine by me. ^_^

We talked for a bit until he had to go eat dinner. He said he'd call me again later in the week. I did mention that lots of people would like to hear from him again, including but not limited to [livejournal.com profile] typographer, [livejournal.com profile] kehf and [livejournal.com profile] julesong. I also have his current phone numbers.
