Today's Song: For Such A Long Time by Elis

When I bought the cd Dark Clouds in a Perfect Sky by Liechtenstein goth band Elis I liked it, but I really didn't think the band was overly special. But then, for some reason, I decided to pick up their new cd Griefshire and I was blown away. This really is one of my favorite cds that I've picked up in the last year. It was completed after singer Sabine Dunser's death, which only makes it even more poignant (especially so since she wrote most of the songs and they deal a lot with death, ghosts, and whether there is any afterlife or not).

Still I didn't really believe that their earlier cds (they've done three major label cds and also an earlier one called Twilight) would be all that good. After all, I didn't find any one song on Dark Clouds that gripped me and wouldn't let go. Ah, but this is what iTunes is for. I downloaded the song For Such A Long Time (from eMusic actually, I think) over a week ago and it did grab me by the throat and it won't let go. It's a great song. ^_^

snarkclaw also loved Griefshire when I lent it to her. It's kind of silly, but knowing someone else loves something as much as I do bolsters my own belief that the band really is that cool. Well anyway, I went ahead and ordered their first cd God's Silence, Devil's Temptation.

The band has hired a new singer and is touring. They have a small release coming out this week containing some tracks recorded by Sabine during the Griefshiere sessions and also one or two songs with their new singer Sandra Schieret. It should be interesting to see what they sound like with her on vocals.

I can't link to this particular song since it was never a hit for theim. There's no video on Youtube, and it's not on their myspace page. But here's some other Elis links:
