Today's Song: Rasputin by Turisas
Turisas is a "battle metal" band from Finland. They write songs about Medieval battles and employ some folk melody and instrumentation. As such, they share many things in common with some of my favorite Finnish bands -- Ensiferum (epic viking metal), Battlelore (Tolkien metal), and Korpiklaani (folk metal). Sounds like a band right up my alley, right?
Except that I'd downloaded a track of theirs from iTunes last year and had decided that I simply didn't like it. At all.
Well, never let it be said that they didn't give it everything they've got to win me over. Their newest release is a cd single containing a folk-metal/disco hybrid cover of the old Boney-M tune Rasputin. That is one of my all-time favorite songs, and they do a great job on it. ^_^ Go cool Finish metal!
This song isin't on iTunes, but it is on eMusic, and there's a video:
