Today's Song: Mr. Heatmiser by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
I've always loved this song (actually two songs -- the Snowmister version and the Heatmiser version) from the Christmas video The Year Without A Santa Claus. The Christmas special itself would probably be completely forgettable if not for these two songs (it contains a version of Blue Christmas that I always liked too). I remember one year Whitney made a tape for her friends and included both Snowmiser and Heatmiser on it (and also I Wanna Be A Cowboy by Boys Don't Cry).
Well, as I mentioned a few days ago, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has done an updated version of these songs, and as you might expect it's fantastic. Of all of the big band/swing groups that came out in the late 90's, I think Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are by far my favorites. I have a soft spot for The Squirrel Nut Zippers too of course, but I can take a pass on pretty much all of the others, most of which aren't around anymore anyway.
Given that this is also the band that did an awesome cover of I Wanna Be Like You, I shouldn't be susprirsed that they would be cool enough to cover this song. ^_^ Oh, and by the way -- BBVD also covers Blue Christmas on their Christmas cd.
This song is cool. I have a video link below, but actually if you visit their web site right now you get to hear it play there. ^_^
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Mr. Heatmiser
here's a version set to the original animation but I don't like it because they edit the song, speeding parts up and cutting parts out to make it fit the animation. Bleah. They should've fit the animation to the song, not the other way around.
