Well today I listened to Fighting the World by Manowar. This was one of the cds I listed that I hadn't listened to much, but actually I've already done a song of the day from this cd, and Manowar is far too retarded of a band for me to feature them a second time. They are actually an okay power metal band, if you don't mind the utter lack of creativity, originality, or intelligent lyrics.
I also listened to Life War by Adiastasia. This is another power metal band, and they're better than Manowar in my book, but not by a lot. They are a young band from Brazil playing Christian power metal and they owe a very great debt to their fellow Brazilians Angra. Their singer doesn't always sing on-key, either. But mostly they're not bad and could imrove a great deal by their next cd, who knows.
Oh, and I've featured them before too. So I won't feature them again either, they're not that notable.
I'm crossing those two cds off my list anyway. ^_^
The third cd I listened to today was also a power metal cd, Sonic Firestorm by British band Dragonforce. Like Manowar they play power metal, and they like fantasy themes. The difference is that Dragonforce is actually good. They're still a little cheesy around the edges, but lyrically they're much stronger than Manowar, musically they're much more creative, and talent-wise they shred -- they put the "speed" in speed/power metal. Just like Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica, actually. Okay, so this is not a genre that lends itself to originality, and they're not writing on the same level as a Heavenly or a Thy Majestie, who write concept albums (Thy Majestie especially, who base their albums on real-world historical events like the Battle of Hastings or Joan of Arc's story).
Still, Dragonforce is fun stuff, if you like this kind of thing.
