miko2Recently there have been more people using the exercise room, and often when I go there the treadmill is already in use. Worse, two of the new people are a husband and wife team, and when they're there the treadmill and the running machine are in use.
On top of this, the office is apparently not open on Sunday, even though it's supposed to be. This means the exercise room is not open on Sunday.
Therefore, on Sunday, I decided to try something new. It wasn't raining, but it looked like it could start at any time. I didn't want to walk up the hill to the park which could leave me quite a ways away from home when it might start raining. However, I had also witnessed the husband and wife team wander down into an area that I had always assumed was a dead end, and then come around a bit later and walk down that way again. Was there a path down there to walk on?
It's funny how you can live somewhere for more than two years and not really explore all of it. Turns out, there's not just a path but a parkinglot and some apartments down there that I'd never seen. Also you can walk along the edge of the cliff and there's a nice view, and one complete walk around the entire apartment complex takes about ten minutes. It's a much longer walk than I had realized, and more interesting as well. 3-5 times around is a very good workout.
I did that yesterday and again today when the treadmill was occupied.
One thing I also did was walk around the outside of my own apartment building. The back side is just lawn with no path, so I'd never actually walked bach there before. On the opposite side there's a pretty steep cliff, almost a straight drop in some places. I looked over the edge and I noticed something.
Part way down the cliff side, about ten feet or so down at least, is a sign. It sticks out perpendicular to the cliff face, sign facing up. And it says (if I remember correctly):
Danger
Enclosed Space
Entry Permit Required
I want to believe that someone put it there as a joke -- but in fact there's an enclosed power plant of some sort somewhere down below that you pass as you drive up Lea Hill Road. So it's probably really there on purpose.
But I imagine anyone falling down the cliff is going to have a hard time turning around, sign or no sign.
