Today's Song: Victory Song by Ensiferum
Ensiferum (which means sword-bearer in Latin I think) was my first Viking/folk metal band. They put out two great cds, and then their lead singer/guitarist left to form his own band, Wintersun. After that they got another singer and put out an EP that wasn't too impressive. I was kind of wondering if the glory days of the band were behind them, but their next and most recent cd, Victory Songs, is really good, and the title track is as good as anything they've ever done. It's got a very long buildup to the first verse and by the time you hit the chorus, you really get that soaring fantasy-theme feeling of Vikings warriors ready to defend their homeland.
The whole song is about 10 minutes long. Right now I'm addicted to it. ^_^
Ensiferum is one of those bands that, for some insane reason, is still not to be found anywhere on iTunes.
