Today's Song: I Need Love by Sam Phillips

I first discovered this artist back about 1981 when I was still in high school and listened to a lot of contemporary Christian music. She went by Leslie Phillips at the time, and she made very good modern pop rock. After several albums and a few years, she changed her name to Sam Phillips and pursued a recording career outside of the Christian music market. She was married to T Bone Burnett by this time, and he's been a well-known singer/songwriter and record producer in the industry for years.

Sam Phillips never made it big, but as far as I know she still occasionally records albums... just like her husband does, once in a while. This song is from her 1994 cd Martinis and Bikinis, which for me was always one of her "newer" cds... quite an old cd these days. I know this is an artist that eddvick always liked -- she's got an interesting voice and is a very good songwriter.

It's funny how people are still angry at her for leaving the Christian music scene, even though that was over 20 years ago... there are comments on the Youtube page for this song saying that it demonstrates how she's "fallen away from God"... as if having a contract with an official Christian label like Word or Sparrow records proves you're right with God, and anyone who performs music with a normal music label obviously isn't a Christian anymore... people are funny stupid.
