Update on my car, since Keith wanted to know.

To recap:

1. My car was stolen on I believe it was first Monday of November.

2. I drove my landlord's extra (junky) car for 2 weeks, then got a rental on a Wednesday.

3. My car was recovered a day later (I was informed, anyway). It was used in a kidnapping but the woman survived. The people who did it were her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend.

4. Julie drove me up to Mt. Vernon the next day (a Friday), and after the detective searched it he helped me get new liscense plates and I drove it back home.

5. I dropped the car off at Saturn of Lynnwood on Sunday night before Thanksgiving weekend.

6. Saturn didn't look at it until Tuesday afternoon. They called State Farm Insurance.

7. Adjuster waited until the following Monday to come out and look at the car. He did not say anything to Patty at Saturn or leave his name/contact info.

8. Adjuster took another week to fax information to Saturn. What he faxed was not very clear, and Saturn was not able to contact him.

9. By the following week Saturn got permission from Mark at State Farm (claims handler) to work on my car. They do several things that I will have to pay for too.

10. After working on my car, Saturn got into a big argument/shouting match with the adjuster, because they did some things differently than he wanted them to. Note that he failed to communicate with them at all up to this point, and anyway even he admitted that he wasn't the final authority on authorizing work on the car.

11. A week after faxing the bill to State Farm, Saturn calls Mark and finds out that he apparently doesn't have their fax or lost it. They fax it to him again. TWICE.

12. Several days later (after Christmas) Mark at State Farm says they've sent a check to Saturn.

13. Monday before New Year's, Saturn doesn't know if they have the check yet.

14. Tuesday, they have the check. I can't get in before New Year's.

15. Thursday, I get my car from Saturn of Lynnwood. They've fixed a lot of things. They didn't fix the ripped sun visor on the driver's side, which is one of the most obvious things that the car theives ruined, and which I'd noted in the notes that Saturn still has.

16. Friday I call Aurora Collision. State Farm wants to do some body work and possibly detailing which Saturn didn't do? Mark at State Farm won't tell me what they want to do, he just says to have them call him. Aurora Collision insists on making an appointment for an inspection/estimate, which isn't needed, but I can't bring it in until Monday.

17. Mark at State Farm tells me that it's not unusual for stolen cars to take 1 or 2 months to get fixed back up, since so many different things need to be done. He is ignoring the fact that nearly ALL of the 2 months of delays have been due to State Farm's slow response, lack of communication, and inaccessibility. I have yet to call Mark at State Farm and find him at his desk and not on another call -- and I've called him many many times. State Farm is an incompetent insurance company, which I knew from the last time I had to deal with a claim on my car, about four years ago.

18. Monday I take car in to Aurora Collision. They're going to fix the bumper and the sun visor. No indication that they plan to detail the car, either. They say 3-4 days at least.

19. BTW, they have to call Mark at State Farm to verify that I've already paid the deductible. He's not at his desk, naturally.

20. I have to swing by Aurora Collision an hour later on my way to work, because they forgot to have me sign the waiver saying they can work on my car.

21. Still need to go to car toys after this, but at least I can take the rental back when Aurora Collision is done.

19. No I don't know if they ever caught the kidnappers. The detective hasn't consulted me on the case. ^_^

Sigh. The rental is still very cool to drive, but too big. It's dirty. I feel I should clean it before returning it. Also, the battery shows signs of running low on juice, the dashboard lights were starting to dim, so I've been driving with the radio and fan off, and now things seem okay.

I want my car back, but actually I just want a new car. But I don't want car payments. :P
