Sometimes you just stumble across new music. I was at Half Price Books on Sunday with my ex-roommate Tom, and while I didn't feel like spending a lot of money, I picked out a handful of cds from the $1.00 bin. Only one of these was something I wasn't familiar with: Spells by The Comas, which I grabbed based on the packaging -- it looked like the kind of music I might like.
Good choice. This is a 2007 cd from an alternative/indie rock band from Chapel Hill, NC. This is their fourth release. Their third cd Conductor in 2004 was hailed by critics (Rolling Stone, Spin Magazine) as one of the best releases of the year (that nobody else noticed). Just a couple of listens through have convinced me that I like this band a lot, and several tracks grabbed me instantly, including the following which comes up as the top video for the band on Youtube:
