Speaking of Australian music, I have to mention my favorite Aboriginal rock group Yothu Yindi. Back sometime in the early 1990's when Whitney was working at WOSCA where I worked, she read about this band in the paper. There was a concert that evening, and she thought it sounded like fun. I really didn't know anything about the band, I hadn't even read the article, but I went with her to the concert. It was a blast! I feel very lucky that I got to see them perform.
This video is quite cool -- all kinds of images of indigenous people from all over the world. Yothu Yindi made deceptively simple music with simple messages, because really their messages were not only specific to their own people but applicable to Indigenous people the world over.
