Yesterday I was suddenly siezed by the desire to listen to Grieg's Peer Gynt. This was after listening to a new song by Tyr (see yesterday's song of the day post) that borrows the melody from Solveig's Song.
This was also right as I was about to leave for work. Given that my classical music is not in any order whatsoever, I was unable to locate any of the cds I wanted in the two minutes I had before I rushed out the door.
Last night I organized my classical music cds. It's not in perfect order now, but at least all of the Bruchner is in one place, and all of the Dvorak is filed together. I own more Bruchner and Dvorak than anything else, but I really do have a pretty good classical collection that I mostly don't pay attention to.
Unfortunately I failed to find the Greig cds that I wanted. After more searching I located the two Peer Gynt orchestral suites that I own (both of which I bought for cheap at Half Price Books, for $2.50 and $1.98 respectively in fact, so the quality of the performances is suspect). I failed to locate my complete Peer Gynt music 2-disc set, which I've probably lent to somebody a long time ago and may never see again. So... end result is, I don't necessarily have a good recording of anything from Peer Gynt, and I seem to be missing the one complete music cd set that I used to own and which was one of my favorite classical recordings.
This is, however, one of the few classical cds I own that I had already ripped to my hard drive... so all is not completely lost. I can still listen to it.
In the meantime, today I grabbed Borodin's Symphony no. 2 / On The Steppes of Central Asia and Dvorak's 3rd & 7th symphonies and enjoyed listening to them at work.
