Today's Song: The Drowning Years by While Heaven Wept
I saw this band listed on Brave's myspace page. Thinking they might be a similar band, I clicked on the link. As it turns out While Heaven Wept is a very different kind of band -- epic doom metal with a male vocalist instead of progressive metal with a female vocalist -- but the two bands share most of the same members.
That, and While Heaven Wept is very, very good. This is the kind of doom metal I like -- with tons of melody and with clean vocals rather than the gargling cookie monster vocals you get with a lot of these type of bands.
I was bad and ordered their cd from Ebay the same day after listening to their stuff. Like Brave they are an unsigned band that self-produces their own cds, and their most recent cd Of Empires Forlorn appears to be out-of-print. Or rather, a limited edition of the cd was put out in 2003 by Eibon Records (and is out of print now) and supposedly an unlimited edition was put out in 2005 by Rage of Achilles Records, but the problem is that Rage of Achilles Records does not appear to exist anymore. The url for their web site now takes you straight to some porno site instead.
They have even older material that is even more out of print. ^_^
