Another cd I picked up recently -- well, sometime in July anyway -- was A Blessing In Disguise by Green Carnation. I have to admit that the songs that attracted me the most from this cd -- the ones I'd downloaded and become addicted to -- were Crushed to Dust and Myron and Cole, which are pretty much the albumn's only straight-ahead rockers. But this is a very sharp band and a very sharp cd that goes in a lot of different directions. It's one of those cds that you just want to listen to from beginning to end and then start at the beginning again.
Lullaby in Winter is one of the songs that definitely stands in contrast to Crushed to Dust. It's what the name implies, a much more laid-back song, although since this is a metal band it builds in power as it approaches the end.
Anyway, Green Carnation is, like Dead Soul Tribe, a very creative "dark progressive metal" band. They're from Norway. They're a bit more like Amorphis I suppose in that they started out as more of a death metal band and went wandering musically after that.
This is a really pretty song:
