Today's Song: Voice in the Wind by While Heaven Wept
My Of Empires Forlorn cd by While Heaven Wept arrived on Friday, and I've been listening to it over and over all weekend. I love this stuff -- epic doom metal. Some people (read, internet idiots) think doom metal means much harsher, heavier music with harsh vocals, and nothing else counts as "doom metal", but this is epic doom metal in the grand tradition of Candlemass, who have been around since the mid 1980's and followed in the footsteps of Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General, who are all credited with creating doom metal in the first place. Candlemass in particular is credited with the creation of "epic doom metal" which utilizes clean lyrics and lyrics based on fantasy or mythology. While Heaven Wept is pretty much a direct descendent of Candlemass, so I've recently downloaded a few Candlemass tracks to listen to as well. ^_^
Anyway... it's cool music. They're a progressive metal band in part as well, but because they're first and foremost a doom metal band, they sing mostly about despair. This, along with the Green Day and Dead Soul Tribe cds, have been my favorite things to listen to the last week or two.
