Today's Song: Bullets by Tunng
I downloaded three more Tunng songs last night, including this one. (I had 3 downloads left with eMusic, and the last few months they've been very eager to begin my next month's subscription up to a week ahead of the end of the month, at which point whatever downloads I have left over from the previous month are wiped out.)
Anyway, Tunng turns out to be the sort of folk band that uses a lot of electronic effects to enhance their music. This is something that Laura Veirs does too, and sometimes John Vanderslice does it... and Sam Phillips, well she's more of a pop singer to begin with. So it's no real surprise that Tunng appeared on my Pandora radio channel. I guess the term for this is "glitch folk" although it also falls into the "freak folk" category, I think. Aren't music categories fun? How about this: it's just good music.
Because of this, some of their stuff feels more like standard pop music than folk. This song, for example, which I already like quite a bit:
