miko2: Ranma disguised as a schoolgirl to fool Ryoga (Default)

Yesterday I actually got out of the house. I was tempted to be lazy and go nowhere but I'm glad I didn't give in to that. Instead I drove up to Seattle to do some Christmas shopping. I parked at Uwajamaya and then walked over to the Pioneer Square to Magic Mouse Toys. That's about 10 blocks at most, I think, but I was able to pretend that was good exercise for the day.

When I walked the bridge over the railroad train tracks near the station, I looked down at a waiting Amtrack train. I realized that even though I've lived in Seattle more than 20 years, even though I worked on the South end of Pioneer Square for at least 10 years, even though I've been to Uwajamaya countless times, I'd never actually walked past there before.

As I got near Magic Mouse I saw some people on the street decked out in Seahawk gear. It occurred to me for the first time that the Seahawks were probably playing a game, and possibly even a home game. Later on my walk back I could hear the roar of the crowd from the statdium even with my iPod headphones on, and I could see the crowd in the upper level of the stadium from where I was on the street just a few blocks away. I think if I had known a game was going on I would have avoided going to Pioneer Square/The International District, but in any case I managed to get out of there without too much trouble. ^_^

My big plan was to get a purple teddy bear for my niece. Magic Mouse Toys didn't have one, but it's a fun place to wander around in and I found something that I think she will like... a plush kitty carrier with a little plush kitty inside, with a plush mouse, ball, and cat bed. The cat's white but the carrier is purple -- she likes purple, a lot.

I also picked up two Christmas music boxes as stocking stuffers -- small plastic boxes that you turn a handle to play a tune, and you can see the insides working.

Even though I wanted to get out of the area before the game ended I had to hit Uwajamaya too... I was there over an hour and two hours parking is 15.00, or free if you spend 15.00 in the store. I found a couple more gifts and things in the Kinokuniya store, I picked up for myself the latest volume of Ah! Megamisama (volume 37 -- wow, I think volume 6 of Ah! My Goddess was the first Japanese-language manga I ever bought, many years ago, just because I liked the art. I bought that at Uwajamaya/Kinokuniya too.)

I also found an art book for Princess Princess (and related works -- Day of Revolution, Family Complex). This, just a week before I get together with two friends to discuss possilby dressing up as the three characters from that manga. Which is pretty scary because I'm too old to pull that off properly, but we'll see. ^_^

After that I drove North to [livejournal.com profile] kehf's house (and [livejournal.com profile] dehd and Ieva and Valentine). My friends were up there playing their Victorian Steampunk rpg game. I got to visit, eat good food, and listen to them take on a swarm of Indian thugees led by clones of the three Storm brothers from Big Trouble In Little China. Oh, and Lady Cowperthwaite was possessed by Kali and really went psycho, which played well with the Indian locals, but less so with the nuns from the nearby Mission.
