Dec. 10th, 2008 10:07 pmLast night I was hanging out with Cat and Nara and Kara at our place in Second Life. I was DJing and dancing. Nara apparently got bored, because she started to play with created objects and the physics engine, and what you could do to objects if you gave them physics (this is a box you can check when editing an item -- it allows it to move and bounce about when you bump it or other things hit it, etc.)
Soon she was building see saws by placing a long plank on a fulcrum. She tested how many small blocks would outweigh a large block, then she tried launching small blocks by dropping the large block on the other end of the see saw from a great height.
At this point, I stepped onto the see saw and let her launch me. This worked pretty well the first time -- I went over a hundred feet in the air. A few more attempts did not turn out as well. Then she hit on the idea of launching a chair with me in it... where the chair had physics switched on.
So, here's our intrepid astronaut Mint Rainbow, all dressed up in her best sexy futuristic outfit:

The launching contraption. It's not quite as sophisticated as NASA, but we're working on a small budget:

All systems are go!

Major Mint to Ground Control.... I’m floating in a most peculiar way

And the stars look very different today

It was a good 8 or 10 second flight. These pictures come from 2 different flights. Both times I landed on the far side of the island. ^_^
