Volume 3 of the Strawberry Marshmallow manga showed up today. I'm reading them as they show up, since there's no real plot to the stories. But they're funny. ^_^
In volume 3 Nobue goes shopping and makes a type of hot pot stew that they all eat. She uses tofu and pork, cabbage, shitake mushrooms, and chives. All of this sounded delicious (possibly because I hadn't eaten much today) so I went to the store and picked up some stuff... I decided on chicken instead of pork, and I debated getting tofu but decided not to (I had a lot of chicken already). I got regular onions too, and carrots. As one of the characters in the manga said, it's pretty hard to screw up stew. It's all in the crock pot now. Yum!
I asked for a new tea kettle and a thermos for Christmas. My new tea kettle is great... only problem is that you have to remove the lid to add water (my old one didn't come with a lid) and if the insides are hot, then you're holding a handle right above the opening where steam is rising from. I found this out the hard way. :P
The thermos looks good (I'd asked for one that wasn't ugly like the green Stanley thermoses are -- yes they still make those, and they still look like the kind my dad had in the 1960's). The problem with my thermos is that it's too big. With the one I have at work, I can fill it up and stick a tea bag in it and I'll have just under two cups of tea inside five minutes. This one, if I fill it up, that's at least 4 cups of tea. If I don't fill it up, of course, then hanging a tea bag from the lip isn't going to make any tea because it won't reach the water. :p
Ah well! It's a very nice thermos otherwise. It's just bigger than one person needs.
