So on January 1st I reformatted my hard drive to get rid of the virtumonde virus. I backed up essential files -- my documents, mail, my favorites (although I accidentally only backed up the IE favorites rather than Firefox), and a handful of programs that either don't require installation to work or are difficult to reinstall otherwise. Specifically SAM3, which is a paid for DJ program that requires time to set up and register and has a lot of playlists and such in it that would have been a pain to recreate.

Anyway, after installing everything... the damned virus popups are back. I don't know where it was hiding but I know I didn't just accidentally download it again. I think I clicked on the first one I saw too... it disguises itself as an anti-spyware alert with the little AVG logo on it, and it referred to a SAM3 uninstall program as being infected, which sounded reasonable to me at the time.

I'm really in a bad mood right now. I have no idea how to get rid of this thing short of abandoning all of my old files, which I can't do.
