Today's Song: Midnight Blues by The Detroit Cobras
NPR did several stories on Detroit this week. Detroit has been hit hard by the recession, of course, and frankly has been in decline for many years anyway. One story reflected on how many great music groups have come from Detroit (not just all the Motown artists -- Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The FOur Tops, the Jackson Five) but also John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Madonna, Eminem, The White Stripes), and how, despit all of this, they really have never capitalized on their own musical history and culture.
Near the end of the NPR story they play a bit of Nothing but a Heartache by the Detroit Cobras. That song has been on my iPod for months, and I still love it.
Unfortunately, they don't have it on their myspace page and there's no Youtube video for it, so instead here's another song of theirs that I like. I downloaded this one just a few days ago after hearing the NPR show and being reminded how much I like this band.
