So I went back to Costco yesterday, Federal Way this time, and their computers were working. Yay for competence!

Shopping at Costco for the single person can be tricky. You pretty much have to plan to eat or use the same thing for many days in a row. ^_^ It's even trickier if you have special dietary needs. I picked up: 1 large bag of raw almonds, 1 very large bag of multigrain chips, 1 block of pepperjack cheese, 1 block of smoked gouda, 1 case of flavored Sparkling Rain water (assorted), 1 package of turkey burger patties (I have a George Foreman grill, I should use it more), and 1 giant bag of whole wheat hamburger buns.

13 burger patties, 16 buns. Of course.

When I got home I cooked a turkey burger, added some pepper jack cheese, and I was set. ^_^ I can stand to eat a few more of those over the next few weeks!

In other news, 2 manga/comics I picked up last week:

Otomen vol 1: This is a shoujo manga. The premise is of an outwardly tough, masculine high school student (leader and top honors in kendo, also very good at judo and karate) who secretly likes to cook, sew, read romantic shoujo manga, eat fancy sweets, and collect cute things. His father left the family years ago after declaring that he wanted to be a woman, and his mother has begged for him not to become like his father. He doesn't want to become a woman, but feels he must repress his natural "unmanly" hobbies and interests.

Since it's a shoujo manga, he falls in love with a girl who fits the role more commonly given to the male romantic lead -- totally clueless about the person who's in love with her. She's also the daughter of a martial artist and so is good at karate, and is terrible at cooking, sewing, and other supposedly feminine pursuits.

Then there's the third person who brings them together, a young boy who is secretly the author of a popular shoujo title that many of the girls (and the boy who is the main character) read. He bases the female protagonist of his manga on his male friend with the girlish interests and traits.

There's a lot of stereotyping of course. Based on Amazon reviews the second volume may not develop the series much beyond the initial premise, though. Ah well. At least the first volume is fun.

Fables: War and Pieces: I might not have the title of this exactly right, but I think it's the volume that immediately follows The Good Prince. Anyway, this series is awesome, so no surprise here but I liked this installment a lot as well. I think I have the whole series up to this point, but I haven't picked up the Jack of Fables books yet. Great stuff though, equal to Gaiman's Sandman by this point, I'd say.
