Friday a large piece of one of my teeth broke off. This is tooth #30, lower right jaw. This is a tooth that I've had more than one filling in. The last one was a deep filling and the dentist had said it was possible for the filling to expand and crack the tooth. I suspect that's what happened.
Monday I called my dentist office, but my dentist is currently in Africa and won't be back until Nov 2nd. I was referred to another dentist who happens to be his daughter. Tuesday I went to see her. I was early, and spent 30 minutes waiting, looking at a picture book about Washington State, and filling out paperwork. Then the dentist looked at my mouth for a minute, explained that I needed a crown and what that entailed, said that I could easily wait until November for my normal dentist to do it, and spent about a minute filing down some of the sharp edges of the tooth and filling. Total time with the dentist: less than five minutes. I'd like to know what she made as an hourly wage for that five minutes. ^_^
Anyway I'm scheduled to go in on November 3rd to my normal dentist. Fun.
I went to Half Price Books after and picked up a 2010 Brian Froud fairies calendar and several cheap cds -- Prom by Amy Ray, which as it turns out I already had (I think my other copy didn't come with a cover, which is why i was confused, anyway this was $1.00), and Kill 'Em All, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All by Metallica, each of which was $2.00. They were all missing the front cover/insert, but oh well. I had ...And Justice For Al in mp3 form but not the actual cd.
Lots of fans think Metallica was the greaatest band that ever lived for their first 5 cds, and then morphed into the worst band that ever lived after the black album. Eh. I've listened to their early stuff, and there are some good songs, but really... I mean, I know they were one of the first and best thrash bands to appear, but I still don't see what makes them the greatest metal band ever. James Hetfield has never had a very good voice. It's much worse these days, but it was nothing special even back then. The music is quite good and there are some good songs, but that's it.
And Load and Reload are not the worst things ever recorded. Sorry. Now, maybe St. Anger deserves everyone's scorn... and I'm not going to defend the band's attitude to their fans. But anyway.
Watched Star Trek: First Contact tonight. Really, it's one of the very best Star Trek films period. I'd stack it up against Wrath of Khan or The Voyage Home, and maybe even against the new film, although I can see why the new one is the most popular and successful of them all. But Picard in First Contact is awesome. Stewart can out-act Shatner without saying a single word.
