Last Friday was payday. This is the check my rent comes out of so I usually don't have a lot of cash left over, and I had bills to pay as well. But I had a $10.00 gift card for Half Price Books so I drove over there, expecting to spend a few bucks. Instead I spent $50.00.
Sometimes when I visit Half Price Books, there's nothing that interests me, and I'm not really in the mood to search through all of their cds (what I'm usually looking for). I either don't want anything at all or have something specific in mind that they don't have, and then I'm done looking.
But Friday I was in one of those moods to comb through all their cds, and a lot of stuff that I found interested me. I would really have liked to find a cd by Alela Diane or Caroline Herring or Polvo, but I did find some stuff that I'd been listening to recently or reading about. Topping this list was the cd by Death Vessel that I'd posted about last week. In fact, I'd only downloaded two more tracks from Amazon from this cd the night before, but it was only $6.00 so getting the full cd was well worth it.
I bought another cd at $6.00 and two at $4.00. One was Jeff Buckley's Grace. One was a cd by Placebo. I forget what the other was, but I also picked up a bunch of cds for $1.00 each, including a cd by the Electric Bonsai Band, the Zwan cd, a few other things... too many cds but they were all $1.00. And then I got a dvd set... Tenchi Muyou "Ryo Ohki" which was not the original OVA series at I thought, or even the 2nd OVA series, but a third series that I didn't even know about.
I felt bad afterwards though. I spent way too much money when I don't have a lot of money to spend at the moment. Now I'm looking forward to that rebate from the IRS from what I paid them last June, I think that was about $40.00. It would be nice if it arrived this coming week.
Monday I passed my emissions test. That was good, I was worried about it. I got an oil change last week and had the engine flushed because my oil was low, but I hadn't been able to follow the rules for performing a driving cycle, which included maintaining a speed of 55 mph for several minutes and then coasting all the way down to 20 mph before speeding up again. Where was I supposed to accomplish that without causing an accident? I tried driving on I-18 early Sunday but there were still too many other cars on the road to do anything of the sort.
Got my tabs Tuesday. My car is legal. But between that and the $110.00 I paid for oil change and engine flush, and other bills, and the money I spent at Half Price Books, I have a $20.00 bill in my pocket and probably no money in the bank save what I need to pay rent, so anything I can do to avoid spending money right now is good. ^_^
I've been trying to work on my fanfic story this week with limited success. I need to write a bike race scene, and I just can't imagine how to write it, or make it remotely interesting.
With all the nice weather in the last week I've walked during my lunch several times.
