Naniwrimo 2010
Nov. 30th, 2010 11:07 pmOkay, I cheated a little. A lot, really. To whit:
1. I did not work on a single novel that did not exist prior to Nov 1 2010. Instead I worked on my fanfiction story, which I've done every year for the last four years.
2. I did not even write 50,000 words of original, never-existed-before work. Instead I built several chapters out of pre-existing sketches and partially finished scenes. So some of the words that I counted weren't even written in just the last month.
3. Given all of that, I still failed to reach 50,000 words. I was at 36,000 words before Thanksgiving, and then failed to write anything more until Sunday. Then Sunday night, Monday night, and again tonight I struggled to write those last 14,000 words. 4500 words a night is a lot.
Technically I'm at 49,000 words now. But it's only 11 PM and I'm well aware that I could pound out another 1,000 words if I stayed up until Midnight. But I'm tired and want to go to bed, so instead, I decided to include some of my story notes and character study work in the document that I ran through their word counter -- so I got credit for 51,000 words.
I cheated.
But naturally the only person you can really cheat at Nanowrimo is yourself, and the only way you can truly cheat yourself is to fail to actually write. I did manage to write. I now have 4 1/2 chapters of story that didn't exist at the beginning of the month. I should be able to finish up the current chapter -- and maybe another -- and then tack on most of the rest of the story. So I feel like I accomplished most of what I set out to do. ^_^
And I mostly did it in less than 15 days.
So I win! Nyaaa!
