miko2Haven't logged into City of Heroes for two days. I tried to work on Girl's School instead, but Weds and Thurs night I had trouble getting much written.
My current problem is that I was writing several scenes that... felt long and not very interesting. Sometimes I suspect that's just my impression while in the middle of a chapter, and when I read it back later it strikes me as better than I thought... but also I've occasionally written long sections that really are not engaging at all. It's hard for me to tell in the midst of writing them.
Also, these scenes involved the same characters, scene after scene. I usually like to break up scenes like that with scenes happening somewhere else involving different characters... I have a very large cast for my story. But nothing else was suggesting itself to me.
Anyway as is often the case, after a night's sleep I realized one of my problems while in the shower this morning. I'm leading up to a big party, and I have characters who are planning to crash the party, and I hadn't foreshadowed any of that. People getting ready for a party = not very interesting in and of itself. People getting ready for a party while others plot to ruin it = more interesting. And the moment I realized that, I also had at least three new scenes in my head, which helped me break up the other scenes.
I got all of that written today, and now I'm at home and, once again, I have no real sense of how to start the next scene. And I suspect that my chapter 30 is going to be far too long, and I'll have to break it up and have a chapter 31... I was sorta hoping I could finish off chapter 30 and I'd be all done with this entire section of the story, but it may take me longer to get there.
I've written 13,000 words since Dec 1st, so that's good. I'm still getting some stuff done.
My car's been fine driving to and from work. It might be no worse off than it's been for the last year or so. I'll have to see how it handles a longer trip tomorrow...
