I've logged into City of Heroes twice in the last month... just to keep my characters from being kicked out of the SG I'm in. Not that that seems very likely; the leader's awol and the SG seems pretty directionless. The friend who got me into the SG in the first place and is supposedly 2nd in command of it mostly plays with a different SG now... so maybe the SG I'm in is dying. It's a huge SG with many divisions though, so it would be a slow lingering death.

But anyway, I haven't actually played CoH in a month. You might think that means I've gotten a lot of writing done instead, but that's not the case. I played Second Life a bit, watched movies, read, and surfed the web. In other words, I can find many ways to goof off.

Today I bought three cds in mp3 form from a place called Media Club. They were very cheap -- 14 to 17 cents per song, about 1.50 per cd. The site is apparently based in the Ukraine, and although it sounds like a perfectly legitimate music site, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be able to buy music there from America. But I was buying European bands that are hard to get over here anyway. You have to upload money to them to use the site, so I uploaded 5.00 via Paypal and spent most of it on the three cds.

One of the bands I picked up was the last cd from 2009 of my favorite folk metal band from Hungary: Dalriada - Hazatérés. This song is from their brand new cd though, which won't be out for another week or so.

My other project of the morning was re-organizing all of my mp4 videos. When I first got my iPod, I was excited to have some videos to watch on it, so I found a way to download some videos. I wasn't very careful to name them, and so many of them only had the name of the song, no mention of the band, and sometimes all the words were run together without capitals. And then my collection grew to some 100 videos, and I had a difficult time remembering what band did a video called "In Effigy" or how many King's X videos I actually had... and finding a specific video was difficult.

When I moved everything from my old computer to my new one I had to import them all again into iTunes, but I didn't fix the problem. Along the way I also lost the ability to download any more videos, which was okay because I really didn't watch them that much. It was enough that if I wanted to watch a video on my iPod, I had a collection of favorites there ready to watch.

Anyway today I finally wanted to add a couple of new videos, and so I located a nifty Chrome plugin that allowed me to download a few new ones. At the same time, I noticed that iTunes had forgotten where most of my videos were located. I have most of my music stored on an external terabyte drive, and I guess because it's not a permanent drive, iTunes occasionally gets confused about things. The videos were still on my iPod, and iTunes wasn't removing them because it had the videos in the library, but it didn't know where the files were and wouldn't play them in iTunes.

So instead of just repairing the file links, I deleted everything out of my iTunes library and then renamed all of the files properly, band name first then song name, all capitalized and with spaces. This took me a couple of hours at least. When I was done I imported everything again and then re-added stuff to my iPod. Now it's much easier to find songs and know how many videos of which bands I have.

While I was at it I checked out an anime recommended to me by my ex-roommate Tom called Princess Jellyfish. Tom thought it was a really great anime that I would like. "It's like a cross between Paradise Kiss and Genshiken" he said. Tom sometimes waxes hyperbolic when describing anime or movies he likes -- he recommends all kinds of stuff to his friends, kind of like me with music I guess. But this time he was pretty close to the mark. Princess Jellyfish is a fun anime that involves extreme otaku (girl geeks in this case) and a crossdresser. Pretty funny so far. ^_^

I downloaded the first few episodes for my iPod, since I was doing that kind of thing today. But subtitled anime on a little iPod nano is not really such a smart idea .. better to just watch it online.
