For the second time in a week, I've come home and discovered that our house had lost power, however momentarily. This time my vcr was still on, and Tom's computer hasn't gone down the whole time, but my alarm clock and two computers were down again.

So I boot up my "gaming" computer in the computer room... which has become my all-purpose computer as of late. Then I go into my bedroom and try to boot up my older computer in there.

The problem is that it wants to spend days doing the disc scan thing. At first I got frustrated and tried to skip out of it, but then it encountered an error. Hmm. So I let it go all the way through... it decided there was a registration problem and restored to a backup copy. This is the same thing it did last week when it got shut down by a power loss.

Only this time, it's stuck. Every time I try to boot, it says it's restoring a backup, and then tells me to reboot. And then it does the same thing again. There's no chance to boot into safe mode or anything... I can get to dos by using my Win98 disc, but I have no idea where to go to from there. Or I could just install over Windows I suppose. I don't know what I'd be messing up if I did that, but most of my important documents are on drive D not drive C.

The annoying part about this is all of the stories I've been working on are stored on drive D of this computer, so I can't access them if I can't get the computer to boot. So for now, I can't work on anything. And I don't know what to do next.
