The Christmas Party at Pandora House was lots of fun. The decorations were wonderful, and even more fun once we got to play with the air guns. I was sad that I didn't have my story finished to read, but it's a Tai-Pan story so I can still finish it and read it at the next writer's meeting. I was happy to see Matt and Sheryl, but having not seen them in so long, I failed to plan ahead and didn't have a present for them. But no matter, that is also something I can fix at an upcoming writer's night, since Sheryl's new work hours means she plans to come by more often.

I got a lot of wonderful gifts from my friends. Keith even picked something from my hard-to-find Christmas list! ^_^ (It's under the name "Miko" heh.) I talked about music a lot -- I can babble on about music all day. The food was also good, and I had a lot of fun watching others open their presents, especially seeing what their reaction was to my presents.

Yesterday I also worked on my nephew's cd of songs he really likes. To do this, I downloaded a few songs from Walmart's music web site -- Crazy Train and Mama I'm Coming Home by Ozzy Ozbourne, Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 by Pink Floyd, and Jesus Freak by DC Talk. The first three, it's probably pretty amazing that I don't already own, or Tom doesn't own, but the last one, although I collect some Christian alternative and Heavy Metal (bands like The Choir, Daniel Amos, The Lost Dogs, Tourniquet, Deliverance), I've never really liked mainstream Christian pop or Christian rap, which both describe DC Talk. But when I listened to the Jesus Freak song, it wasn't bad at all.

Anyway the Walmart download thing was .88 cents a song so it was quite cheap, I even threw in "Learning To Fly" by Pink Floyd and it was just over $4 total. The way it works, the songs are protected and I'm allowed to back them up to two other computers and burn copies of them ten times total. I'm not really a fan of copy-protected music of course, but this seems a fair enough bargain for only 88 cents. (Which, from what I understand, the music industry wants to put a stop to this sort of thing -- they really are greedy bastards you know. Buy independant music!)

This left me with one song that my nephew wanted which I didn't have (the others, which I did have, were "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and three songs from the new Green Day cd, at least one of which has the F-word in it, which I'm sure the radio version doesn't have, and which might get me into some trouble with my sister, I dunno what to do about that one, heh.) The song that I didn't have yet was "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. I wasn't really familiar with the song (I don't listen to top 40 radio) but people at work knew the song, and one person said that at their house, they always sing "Let's Get Retarted" to that song. I thought that was a funny joke, but as it turns out, there are two version of this song and "Let's Get Retarted" was the original version.

So -- on Walmart's site I wasn't able to download this song by itself. It appeared on a collection of song from the recent Grammy Awards, and you were only allowed to download that whole cd, not just one song from it. As far as I could tell the song wasn't available as a download otherwise. (There was a "Spike Mix" version that I saw). What I figured out the next day was that "Let's Get Retarted" is on the cd "Elephunk" and also "Let's Get It Started" is on there as a bonus track (probably added more recently, I assume). Anyway this is the "Spike Mix" version, I hope it's close enough to what my nephew wants, but I didn't realize that it might be a different version until today. I could have gone back to the Walmart site and downloaded that track and the Retarted track, but instead I went out and bought the whole cd at Silver Platters. I'll have to decide afterwards if I want to keep it or maybe just give it to my nephew.

Today I have to call my mom to figure out the few people left on my Christmas list, I have to drive to Kirkland to visit the British Pantry, and I want to watch the Seahawks game, which is an early game so I should be able to do that first and then head to Kirkland. ^_^

The Seahawks won, after looking like they might lose. Yay.

Oh BTW, yay for the Washington Husky Women's Volleyball team, 2005 National Champions. Yay!

I got some mushey peas and other things for my brother-in-law. Yay!

I failed to get my mother to answer the phone, same as last week. I tried twice today. I'll have to try tomorrow -- it's one week and counting, and I don't have any ideas for what to get for several of my relatives. Boo!

*edit*

Was just checking out Abigail Washburn's web site and I clicked on a link to an NPR interview with her on World Cafe, and it included the information: "The record also features musicians Bela Fleck, Ryan Hoyle of Collective Soul and Jordan McConnell of the Duhks."

Sheesh. I mean, I knew the cd sounded really good, but now I know why. ^_^ I assume most people have heard of Bela Fleck and of Collective Soul, but the Duhks are also a band I like very much, a young Canadian modern folk band that is very good in their own right. ^_^
