I think my iPod battery might be dying. It ran out of juice a lot faster today than it ever has. I'm not sure why the drop was so sudden, however. I use it every day, and I know until this last week I could play it all day and still have roughly 1/2 a battery left -- and I charge it every night after using it. But today I didn't even run it half the day and it ran down to nearly a zero charge -- after only about 3-5 hours of play.

It's possible to get the battery replaced for under $20.00 but I'd have to mail it off to someone or try and replace it myself (which on a nano is not easy, apparently). Meh.

My car's engine light came on last week and was on all weekend. I thought I would have to take it in to have it checked, even though it's only been a year or less since I had my 50,000 mile checkup. But yesterday the light went off, and it hasn't come back on. I guess I'll wait and see if that's the end of it... it is about time to get the oil changed though.

A week and a half ago I got a big loaf of black Russian rye at Trader Joe's and large packages of sliced havarti and sliced turkey breast at Costco. I had sandwiches on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Friday I grabbed something at Fred Meyers. I had a sandwich on Saturday and Sunday too, and that was it for my Russian rye, although I still have turkey breast and havarti left. I made a sandwich on Monday using some older bread that has been in my fridge for a month or two.

Since today was payday I went up to Half Price Books near Southcenter. I also stopped at B Daltons I think it was, but didn't buy anything. On the way back I went down a road I don't normally travel and wound up near the Southcenter Costco. I had been thinking of heading up to Trader Joe's for more black rye, or maybe stopping at Fred Meyers (they sell it too, but their loaves are fatter and not as many slices), but instead I went in to Costco and got more meat and cheese and a double-bag loaf of some 20-grain bread. When it comes to bread, I sort of assume anything with lots of whole grains and not much sugar or white bleached flour is probably going to be okay for me.

My Costco card expires next month, and it's $50.00 to renew. I certainly haven't used it enough in the last year to justify that kind of price, but if I buy lunch food like this more often I could probably justify it. What I got tonight is good for making sandwiches for at least 2 weeks, for about $17.00 total. That's worth it.

What I did last night was make some of my "rice helper" stuff -- brown rice, ground turkey, stewed tomatoes, Mexican seasonings, some veggies. I made salads and sliced veggies as well. For Christmas I got a lunch box set called "lock lock" I think, from Kristin and David (and Charles and Ieva I suppose?). It's pretty nice, consisting of 3 rectangular plastic containers that fit into an insulated carry case. However, I only used it once and then I had to wash the containers, and so last Saturday when I was at Uwajamaya I got 3 more of the same containers... so last night I filled 2 containers with my rice/turkey casserole whatever you call it stuff, 2 with a salad, and 2 with cut veggies. That was my lunch for today and tomorrow... then it's back to the sandwiches I think!

It's cold outside.
